The Calama women are known for their tireless fight for human rights and their 30-years-long search in the Atacama Desert, for the remains of their missing relatives who were tortured and killed under the regime of Augusto Pinochet.

I remain lying under a bulk of sand. Ten Chilean women remove the sand by the handful until my body is made visible.
