Gente de color
Estructuras vivientes, 14th Cuenca Biennial, Plaza Cívica, Cuenca, Ecuador.
Curated by Jesús Fuenmayor
This work reflects on the existing gaps between black, mestizo and indigenous populations in Ecuador. The title of this work alludes to the segregation, deterritorialization, and isolation still suffered by afrodescendant populations. They have remained absent from the country’s official history, have no representation in political parties, and lack necessary and basic tools for their integration into Ecuadorian society.
I remain inside two concrete blocks that have the shape of my body and from which I cannot leave by my own means. From the outside it is difficult to notice my presence, only the most curious passers-by are able to notice.
