El tanque (The Tank)
An Island Apart: Cuban Artists in Exile, Miller Gallery – Otterbein University, Westerville, USA.
Curated by Janice Glowski
In Cuban slang, a metal barrel is referred to as a “tank,” but this is also the term used to refer to prison: to be sent to the tank.
I stood naked in the center of the gallery while two tanks were placed over my body, completely enclosing me. The tanks were joined together from the outside by a welder. I remained imprisoned and monitored by a camera installed over my head for the duration of the exhibition opening.
